Come audition for the Thunderbird, a group whose motto is, “If it isn’t fun, it’s not worth doing.”
- This is a non-union project. There is no monetary compensation.
- Regular rehearsals will be in downtown Oakland, walking distance from the 19th street BART station, and around the corner from Mama Buzz Café on Telegraph Avenue (cross street: 23rd).
- There is one dance number in this play. Whereas having dancing talent may help being selected, it will not be a main factor in casting.
- The Thunderbird welcomes anyone and everyone to audition regardless of sex, age and previous experience. Please note, however, that there are currently no roles that are suitable for people under 18 years of age.
- We will take reservations (details below) for on-the-hour audition times (from 9:00 am until the

- Please don’t ask for copies of the script in advance, that would negate the idea of a “cold read.” If you’d like to prepare, reacquaint yourself with the John Cleese TV comedy series, “Fawlty Towers” — Having a basic knowledge of Greek Gods can also be a way to prepare. NOT having knowledge of any of these things can perhaps can be equally beneficial to your audition, however.

More about the play
Madcap farce, sledgehammer wit and cheeky behavior rule the day as the wonderfully rude god of the sea Poseidon and his dutiful but inept hotel staff of sea creatures vie to host the first Olympics in a colossal competition of manners and hospitality.
Dimwitted Poseidon, the most underappreciated God of Mount Olympus and proprietor of a 2-star hotel at the bottom of the sea, is hoping for respect and redemption by vying to host the first Olympics. Can he, his venomous wife Medusa and a bumbling staff of sea creatures pass muster? Or will the clever goddess Athena outfox the short-fused Poseidon once again? The guest list includes a litany of insatiable gods behaving badly, a mounted singing toy fish and the optimistic one-hit wonder Bobby McFerrin… It is just another farcical day under the sea at Salty Towers.
